Likewise with the KPA3 option kit I recently received. There is little
difference in the texture of both sides. The finish does have a slight
crackle appearance to it, but it is very slight.
Does this really make a difference? I assume the 'troublesome' one has
a coat of finish on both side
My SN31 doesn't exhibit a noticeable difference between inner surface finish
and outer surface finish.
It is conceivable that a metal working shop might assume the surface with
the flush screws faced the exterior for appearance sake, rather than the
engineered aspects.

Im sure come Monday Eric and company will read all this and take a
looksee. Im just glad Im not going nutz. That was the longest part of
the build trying to figure out how to get fan panel flipped.

My #818 has the same problem with the fan panel finish painted on the wrong
side. One wonders if this is just a new batch of panels with the problem or
the problem has been there from the git go?

I installed a KPA3 yesterday and noticed the same thing. The final finish
is on the side with the countersunk screw holes. I figured that the
difference
in finish between the two sides was subtle and that I wouldn't pay any
attention
to it once the fans were in place and on the back of the rig.

Subject: [Elecraft] Fan Panel Flipped???
I think I might have brushed on past a comment for another Elecrafter
that the fan panel may be flipped (crackle finish side inside). I think
he's right. It looks like the wrong side was up when the panels were
stamped.
Thats what I meant the side facing out has machining marks around the
various screw holes. The side facing inside has no such marks. The side
facing inside is milled for the flat head screws so that is the side
that was intended to be on the inside I guess.
I just fogured the cleaner side wou

Am I correct?
