Howdy K3' people:
This time I see ERR TXG while trying to xmit CW on transverter xv50.
So I was wondering, am I asking too much from my setup?
I want EME on 144 and 432, as I told Elecraft when I was laying it all
out to buy over the phone.
Does anyone use a K3 with XV50, XV144, XV432, KXREF
Hi Group,
I've just re-run the TX Gain calibration routine on my K3 using the K3
Utility 1.12.9.22 and hit a snag.
5W and 1mW calibration routines run perfectly, all bands.
On the 50W calibration, on the 50Mhz band, the K3 LCD display show the
ERR TXG message. All other bands calibrate without

Group,
I think I've discovered the cause: I noticed the SWR seen by the
K3 at 52.00MHz is 1.2:1, whereas it's 10:1 on all other bands. This
was shown on the K3 SWR meter and confirmed with my antenna analyser
at the K3 antenna connector. I did some detective work and
Sorry about the typo:

That should read 1.0:1, not 10:1

*John,
Checked my emails later than normal for the day and so I see you have had
an issue like I had once except i discovered the jumper was indeed faulty.
Glad to see you got it sorted.

Oh well, I guess there's not much else I can do.. Did all the firmware, reset,
reload, etc.. Checked the coax, again. Checked the dummy load, again.
Seems like either the KAT3 is toast, or something else. I'll call Elecraft on
Monday for further instructions or advice.

Hi All
Just completed my K3 SN:1168 last night. Now doing the calibration I ran into
the folling problem. Everything went fine until I did get to the transmitter
gain part.
on 160 to 30 m it says ERR TXG. I puts out 1.1 to 3 watts on these bands. On
the higher bands it's ok.
I started all over
Sounds like you've done the right things, but double check

just in case and please come back to us with the resolution, when you
have one.

I have K3/100 #757 using firmware 1.88 MCU and 1.70 DSP.
When trying the Low-Power (5W) Transmitter Gain Calibration, it works on 80 and

The Synthesizer Calibration and Reference Oscillator Calibration (using WWV

Hi Toby -
Yes, I did turn the KPA3 on, but thanks for the hint. I should also add
that all my filters have the correct offsets set (with - signs...), and I

I should probable reiterate that the radio calibrates fine on all

Many thanks to all who replied to my query about the ERR TXG error

My K3 s/n 00168 was labelled as being for the US bands. Perhaps it is
correct to assume that 60 metres was aligned for 5332 to 5405 kHz. In
the UK our 5MHz channels are from 5260 to 5405

Try a higher frequency. I also had the same problem at the bottom of the

David,
Please try doing the calibration on one of the 60M channels. Try 5403.5 kHz.

All seems to be OK apart from an error message, ERR TXG on the 30m band

Other bands seem OK and acting as should.
When trying to transmit into a dummy load 50Ohm I get no power out and

As per owners manual
Transmit gain constant out of range.
This usually indicates a problem with band-pass filter alignment or one of
the low-pass filters. In either case it could affect one or two bands. See

Have you run the Transmitter Gain calibration per the Owner's manual on all

Do you have any error messages when running the Synthesizer calibration?
(Owner's manual, Calibration Procedures, Synthesizer)
If the synthesizer is out of lock, the receiver will still produce some
noise and possibly what sounds like signals. But it'll be way off frequency,
which would explain
Hi Ron .
No I did not have any synthesiser error messages at any stage.
I thought that may have gone out of lock as tuning the main dial alterd
the background noises but not that much ie tuning seemed slower than
expected.
As I said in the mail to the list I should have scanned the RX freq with
