Has anyone been successful in interfacing the K3 with the Icom PW-1
amplifier to allow for auto band switching of the amplifier?

microHAM microKEYER II, DigiKeyer II and/or Station Master provide
isolated/regenerated CI-V control and PA PTT capable of controlling
a PW-1 with a K3. DXLab Suite provides a software solution (the
Secondary CAT Serial Port in CI-V Commander) to controlling the
PW-1.

Oh, there are a lot of them - the native CT17, Rigexperts, Rigblasters

I know of no other products currently on the market capable of
translating serial controls in one format to the CI-V transceive
necessary to control the PW-1.

None of the above will translate Elecraft CAT commands to Icom CI-V
transceive protocol broadcasts to allow the PW-1 to track or change
bands with the K3. Without the proper data, the PW-1 doesn't operate
as an
As Joe mentions, my personal experience using the Station Master is very
good; it is a well supported and fully functional solution that also
provides antenna switching and rotor control among other capabilities,
and I just recently started using it remotely.

Check the circuit diagram. If they are using the same concept as in my ICOM
IC-2KL, then the amp has absolutely no protection without ALC.

Any one has a K3 and a PW-1 hooked up for automatic band switching of the
PW-1? If so, how as it accomplished?
Thanks

Bob,
There are two approaches that will work to do automatic
band switching with the K3 and PW-1. The first is to use
something like the microHAM Band Decoder

IIRC, this method only works for the major bands. ICOM did not
provide for the others.
