Jorge,
The K3 has outstanding dynamic range even with the preamp on.

Hi Jorge,
If you are listening to weak signals on 10m with a K3, the PRE should
be on. It's really required unless your local 10m ambient noise is
terrible.
The FT1000MP built in this change in sensitivity, so

I have the 6m ARR P50VDG Gasfet preamp and KVX3. I wondered if the
P50VDG may have gain at 28-MHz? I entered 28.400 and alternated
between the P50VDG and the internal PRE. There were no signals to
check this on but with white noise the P50VDG shows slightly less

Hello,
well, I read some emails here about K3 performance in 10 mts band but really
I never tested it carefully.
We started ARRL10 with the K3, very poor condx in the morning, good in the
afternoon.
Second day in the morning we didn´t heard any signal in 10 mts. Some of the
guest operators
Noticed that here, too, in Arizona using a TS-480.

This seems to come up every year after the ARRL 10M contest. Perhaps an
extra 10dB of i.f. gain on 10M could be programmed into dsp firmware.

If these reports are correct, then additional I.F. gain isn't the answer. If
weak signals aren't being heard, it's because the signal/noise (S/N) ratio
isn't as good on 10 as it is with the comparison rig.
If so, something's wrong with the K3 in question. It's simple to check a K3
for adequate

In the past, I resorted to going into CONFIG FLx Gain and dialing it up and
that helped a lot. IF Gain WAS the answer for me.
However, I understand that some folks are resorting to external

True.
Even though I do get a rise in band noise going from dummy load to antenna, I
still hear weak signals on my 480 that I don't hear on the K3 on 10 meters
SSB. Not sure about cw (what's cw?) :-). Assuming my K3 is set up properly,
I would hate to crank up the IF gain just for 10 meters.

And Barry reports that additional I.F. gain does help him on some signals,
at least.
Your reports suggest that something in the receiver chain is degrading the
S/N ratio at lower signal levels.
If the degradation is in the second I.F. then additional first I.F. gain
would help. I've never seen
Interesting, Barry. Tnx for the feedback.

If this could be quantified some way, perhaps we could get away from just
