I will add to Jim's description of the current situation that
they will also need to debug the assembly manual. Historically
they have debugged that manual by honing their factory assembly process.

I am curious as to if/when a K4 kit will be available. I'm currently
working a part time job (old retired guy here) to help gather funds to
order a K4 and I would prefer a kit. It's a bit cheaper and I still enjoy
building kits even if there is no soldering involved!

Hi Bill,
The K4 and K4D both provide up to 5 receive antenna sources. The difference is
that the K4D has an additional ADC so the sub receiver can be on a different
antenna from the main receiver.

Dear OMs and YLs,
Someone on this forum stated that if sold in kit form that the K4 did
not need CE approval for sale in the EU. I am not sure this is true but
hope so and of course then hope that the kit is coming out sooner rather
than later. I have a deposit down for the second
It is my humble opinion that a good start to think about for the price to
save money for a Elecraft K4 Kit is 10% below the cost of a full factory
assembled unit.
I've been in business for 40 years, and looking at many units, 10% below
is just about right. You must realise that with the K4
Not in my experience. Chokes are inductors and, together with stray
capacitance, can create unwanted resonances and accompanying
parasitics. Resistors just bleed the charge off an otherwise nearly
infinite input impedance which is the whole idea in the first place.

What a clever way to install a static drain resistor! THANK YOU!

All of our radios have bleeder resistors at the antenna jacks.

ICE lightning arrestors include a static drain. I think the ones now made
by Morgan Mfg. and Array Solutions do too, but haven't confirmed that.

I believe Elecraft equipment has static drains built in but I always put
a resistor in a PL-259 plugged into one arm of a coax tee with the
antenna on the other arm, on the connector on the radio. It doesn't
have to be precipitating to create "precipitation static" and it won't
take long for

That’s a great idea. And the parts left over after I put it back together
again I can keep as spares at no extra cost. Neat!

Ted,
The kit assembly manual information will be gleaned from the experience
gained from the build of the first production models.
That was true for the K3 and KX3 - yes it is unlike the experience with
the K2, K1 and KX1 which were not available as factory asssembled (kit
only), but they

Here’s the vexing problem. The web site says there will be a kit version, but
the availability date hasn’t been set yet. The deposit options are therefore
apparently for the factory-built versions. What’s the solution for the tension
between “I want one now” and “I want to build the kit”?
