Use the utility to check that KAT500 has tuned to your 20 m frequency. If it
has, then
Using the utility, erase the settings for 20M and reteach it? Once
trained, leave it in MAN mode for daily use.

Thanks to Dick K6KR for helping me with this problem yesterday. Updating the
KAT500 utility program, in combination with a KAT500 firmware reload, fixed
the issue.

Ever since the most recent KAT500/KPA500 firmware updates,
switching between antenna 1 and 2 shows funny behavior.
For example, on the 20 meter band I have two antennas:
Antenna #1 -- Wire 80-meter Dipole (ladder line fed)
Antenna #2
If you are sure it's related to a firmware update,
can you revert to earlier firmware to confirm?

If you have [KAT500] firmware version 1.63 and sleep when Idle on, that
combination has a switch problem that has been corrected in Beta firmware
version 1.67, available on our web site.

We're probably going to put 1.67 into production

Yesterday I spent all day rearranging my shack which included disconnecting
and relocating my K3/KPA500/KAT500.
The gear is interconnected using the Elecraft DB15 cables from K3 to KAT500
and KAT500 to KPA500 all as per diagram on P6 (Fig 1) of the manual.
All was working great before I
Thanks Gary
I have messed and fiddled and fiddled and messed and have now swapped the
two DB15 cables back again. For whatever reason, it has now started to work
OK again. I don't know why !!
I will keep my fingers crossed that it keeps working.

Barry,
Just curious but after your initial disconnect of your K3 station, did you plug
the exact same DB15 cables back into the same individual components? Also, did
you have your KAT500 hooked up the PC at anytime during the dismantling and not
shut the PC down before disconnecting it? I did
Barry,
According to the current KAT500 manual, top of p. 11:
IMPORTANT: If you are using the KAT500 with an Elecraft K3 transceiver
connected using DB15 cables as shown in Figure 1 or Figure 2, you must
apply power to the KAT500 before turning the K3 on. If you turn the K3
on before applying

You're right I'm sorry I apologize. I'm on pain medication from having my

In your original post you say that you turned on the KPA100 in the
K3. You should have the KPA100 turned off when using the KAT500. The
KAT100 is not needed when using the KAT500.
Make sure that when you are tuning with the KAT500 the TUNE POWER is
set to 25W. Below 20W will not give an

reset the parameters in the utility program (EEINIT;)
That did it. Kat500 is working great..
