In North America, orange outlets are normally isolated ground outlets. The color does not signify the voltage. Only the outlet pin configuration is used to determine the voltage. On most North American outlets, the ground connection on the outlet is connected to the outlet mounting frame.

I'm not sure, but I believe the orange outlets mean that the outlet is protected with backup power, e.g., a generator, in case of lost power from the grid. I've seen these in hospitals. I don't know if it's in the NEC or not. Anyone? Regards, John Kretsch -Original Message- From:
