To All Members, I guess I created a minor fire storm so let me try to clarify the issue. You are receiving this email from the EMC-PSTC Email List server (hereafter called List). This email list is separate and stand-alone. While it is hosted by the IEEE servers, it is not the same thing as the

Thank you for the responses. I'll make sure the design team concerned with this topic clearly states the intent of any red LEDs they plan on using. Just to be certain, I'll ask my Chinese regulatory contact. Just an observation, isn't it amazing how prevalent LEDs are today? Ultrabright, r

Hi All, I am surprised that no one has made mention of the suit that was filed in order to have the red LED displayed on their disc drives. I believe the co lost on this matter. It was determined - at that time - that a red color was to be only used as a warning of impending disaster. It was s

Folks, As I recall it, the text in IEC 60950-1 was added many, many years ago to make it clear to all (but particularly Germany) that just because a red LED was illuminated on your keyboard didn't mean that it - or the attached terminal (computers were big in those days!) - were not about to self

In the cases where clock harmonics are an issue running a sinewave clock can fix things. In your case (the 3 rd harmonic) any effective filtering will turn the clock waveform essentially into a sinewave. Troubleshooting which IC (if it is IC-to-whatever E-field coupling) can be performed by di

Havn't heard this in quite a few years. I think it was the late 80's and a Ergonomics specification from Germany IIRC. I don't recall if it went away because of European harmonization or just went away. Supposedly having Red LED's in the operator area could cause Eye Strain, IIRC.

We use hundreds of red LEDs on our mixing consoles - usually to indicate signal peaking, mutes and microphone phantom power - and we've never had a problem with products exported to China. Not a definitive answer I know, but an insight Chris _ C
