I just got an email concerning the use of the G64 P... G-code I

they were happy to add this in their default post processor configuration.

Really nice build. I'm very impressed with the electrical work you have

Maybe this is something like what you want - it is all (?) the
release notes from all (?) the EMC2 releases.
Hello everyone,
I thought that I would make a probe for my setup. My idea was to have
one fixed plate and one movable plate attached to the probe head. These
plates are initially in contact and move apart as the probe hits the
surface thus breaking contact like a switch. I built this and tested

Hey Guys,
I have been reading the list for a few months and I was hoping that
someone else would ask these questions or something close but no one
did. Durn!
First I'm new to EMC and CAM in general so forgive me if this is a
simple question. I know that a post processor is needed to convert CAD

Parallel port pins typically are open collector (They can only sink current
to ground) with an internal pull-up resistor.
You will need to short to ground on contact or add an inverter to your
setup.

Lenny,
There are two steps from the VariCad (or any CAD system) to NC
code. You need an application (CAM system) to create a generic cutter
path and then you run the generic cutter path against a control
specific post processor to create NC code for a particular control.
Most CAM systems

One question Stuart.
Do you use the live CD or a stock install of Ubuntu 6.06 or 8.04?
Based on your notes, it would appear you use a stock install since you add
the install.sh script.
If this is the case, I am assuming you have had better
No, there's not a comprehensive list. The wiki would be a good place to
put it, and the changelog of the emc2 package is a good source for what
was added in what version.
However, the changelog won't have have information about what was
changed since old emc (not emc2) from bdi.

I see on this list that Limit switches are highly recommended. Not only
to identify mechanical limits of the system but also for finding the
mechanical 0, 0, 0 coordinates. I also see the implication that this
can also be used to re-zero the machine if it becomes lost. To me this
implies

Thanks Chris, this may not be the comprehensive feature list I was
looking for (I know the chance of having such a list is small) but it
does allow me to track some of EMC's history. Something that is nice

I seem to get better hardware recognition and everything seems to

stock install handles the hardware better.

Hubert,
I depends on the accuracy you are looking for. For machined metal
parts you will need to have a Z marker pulse on your encoder. The
limit switch only serves to position the slide so the home search will
find the marker pulse on the same revolution of the ball screw so the
home position

I realize that one-stop-shopping as provided by the Live-CD appeals to
some, but those folks have to realize that we can only support EMC, we
can't possibly support the entire operating system.
