That would be a DB25 RS232C port. It can be used for two ports in one but is
typically wired with no more than whats in the smaller DE9
version.http://www.aggsoft.com/rs232-pinout-cable/RS232.htm
The 9 pin version is DE9. There is no such thing as a DB9 connector. That's the
E size. A VGA video
The plan was to replace the usual PC PAR port with P3 on 5i25. I loadede
firmware "prob_rfx2" into 5i25. In the documentation for this firmware is
mentioned that the IO connections for P3 have 4 step generators, dir signals
etc.

If the PC is still working, why not use the original controller
software. It's actually not bad and it has a nice feature that LinuxCNC
does not have: You can jog using the job wheel along the path of a

Yeah, I know that one! Mostly keep it at bay but every once
in a while it starts to bother me.

I have tried using Pncconf to configure a basic milling system: X,Y,Z axis, 3 x
home switches, 1 x all limit switch, spindle on/off output, Mesa 5i25. The
system is LCNC 2.7.8 on Debian. The break-out board is one of the common Chinese
type interfacing to 2M542 motor drives and stepper motors. I.

I ran lathe for 5 years in the early 80s. 5T control. I used multiple
cutter offsets all the time. When you are turning precision parts the
cutting forces vary enough from smaller/larger diameters it is necessary to
compensate each diameter separately. Or change the program which is not
convenient.
Sven, the guy in the mail forum which I suggested to you expects the
Körner company, especially its owner Michael Körner, to be so
cooperative as to provide original documents from the archive. Why not
try first before you throw it all away?

They are servos, pretty big for the machine size too.
Thanks for the link! The machine is the same as the one they discuss
(Körner 532S). The computer is still working so I will see if I can dig out
any config from it. In worst case I'll rip the hardware out and buy some
new drivers and a breakout
Thanks Danny!
Works like a charm =)

Sven, please specify more detail of that machine, at least name, number
etc. There is a company (koerner.net), 36456 Barchfeld (bei Bad
Salzungen), Germany, making CNC machines. The motors are long, still may
be steppers, i use to have similar ones (Dunker Motors), somewhat smaller.

PS:
Gene, remember that the serial ports were used up to 115 KBaud in
professional applications.
