I know v8.10 is not supported and breaks RTAI and other parts. But
since 8.10 is what I was stuck with (required hardware support for
EeePC 900A) and I only needed SIM I gave it a shot.

TkEMC, xemc and the others worked fine.

It would be nice if someone would put up an image somewhere which could
just be written to a flash drive - it would save other people a lot of
trouble and would probably save us from having a lot of questions on the
list when people's compilations go wrong...

This is an informative thread only, but I got an installation of emc2

network and card reader. Pretty slick. I plan on getting a small
and simple DRO instead.

Chris,

Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace.
It's the best place to buy or sell services for
just about anything Open Source.
The emc official packages, and the EMC2 CD are Ubuntu 6.06. These
packages cannot be installed on Ubuntu 7.04.
If you want easy you will want to reinstall from the CD, either
replacing 7.04 or as a dual-boot setup.

I downloaded emc2_2.1.2_i386.deb. When I try to install it, it

How do I go about installing emc2-2.1.2 on a machine that does not
have access to the internet?
