I would be inclined to say no. A
I think the silver ring is now reserved for USM lenses without FTM, I have
examples here of the 28-90mm, 55-200mm and 75-300mm, all the USM versions
and all with silver rings. But the older USM lenses had a dotted gold band
whether FTM or not, like the 75-300mm I and II, 35-135mm, 75-300IS, etc.
A
Absolutely correct. I must have forgotten this a dozen times at least.
Thanks for the reminder :-)

Thanks for the green ring info, having never seen the 400 in person I hadn't
noticed that. Does the 400mm have the "Diffractive Optics" band on its body
like the new 70-300mm?
And besides the silver 24-85mm lens that was made for the IX/Ixe, Canon also
made a similar grey 35-135mm USM lens to matc
I can't speak specifically for the UK, but you should first speak to the
insurance company who insures your home or apartment. In the US, my
renter's and now homeowner's insurance covers my camera gear wherever I
go for "replacement cost."
I tested this about 10 years ago when a bunch of stuff
I dont know how the market reacts to new releases. Are prices likely
to change due to the announcement/introduction of new lenses ? Are any
prices expected to drop ? Those of similar items ? like maybe the
75-300 IS or the 35-350 ?
(Sub-subject:): Has anyone seen any reviews on the new Sigma 17-

Sorry for the off topic,
i wanted to ask those who are based in the UK if they know(and
preferably used) any insurance company for their photographic
equipment.
I've never taken out an insurance so i have some concerns, like who
decides what the equivalent 'new for old' camera is. What if they

The distinction is the green band around the lens barrel, rather than red.

IIRC, the Gold signifies USM (

Since it's a combination of red + green paint that is being mixed: Brown.

Canon's own? Wireless capabilities?
Any advice? Or Canon 550ex is the best choice still - there have been some compains I

Not true, my EF100-400L is a push-pull zoom, and certainly changes length
from the short to the long end.

That's right, I was initially wondered unveiling it, until realized the
exceptioanl benefit of such design with the combination of a huge hood
- they just made a lens with perfect hood !
So I think no problem with that at all...

Hi,
With regard to the discussion whether or not the 70-300 qualifies as
L-lens:
IIRC Canon's L-lenses do not change length while zooming, probably to allow
for better dust and wheather protection. I remember seeing a picture
somewhere on the net, and the new 70-300 almost doubles in length when
