This free piston engine is only an electric generator and we are discussing
its use in a series hybrid which is normally a plug-in (like the Volt). And
Toyota said, they would be using it for a "Range Extender". I suggest we
allow the discussion, and in particular the impact this 1930s technology

I've been a free-piston "nut" since first hearing about the technology
in the 1980s. The tech itself dates to the 1920s, though direct electric
