Never mind. I was yo-yo'ing Evolution... not changing any files... just seeing how many emails it would show before crashing... and with no changes whatsoever, on one of the iterations it found everything again (and subsequent hard restarts keep showing the right number of messages). Go figure.

None of the "delete cache/database" ideas help, and this is not an Exchange-related Inbox (it's my local Inbox, served by locally by Fetchmail using IMAP). After deleting the caches/database, Evolution now crashes while writing these. I think the Inbox file itself is somehow corrupt, and I need a

Evolution 2.8.2 on OpenSuSE 10.2. In the year I've been running OpenSuSE, Evolution has never shut down properly. Either it crashes or hangs or the system crashes. Even when I've tried to exit Evolution gracefully, it just hangs... and I eventually kill it. No problem... when it starts back up,
