"Technically" if your Excel 2007 Default Save format is "Excel97-2003" format, then what you said is true: a new workbook opens in "compatibility mode". If your default format is .xlsx, .xlsm, or .xlsb then a new workbook will have 1,048,576 rows and  16,384 columns (even before saving!) Paul
