Do not do file level backups for exchange. The database is a dynamic open file. There is a specific Exchange Agent for ArcServeIT allowing for online backups. If that is what you are using, let us know what Computer Associates support says in November or so when they get back to you.

Online backups allow you to maintain services without interruption (as I'm sure you know). At my last job we had a couple hundred GB in the stores over several servers. Stopping is not an option. Online backups also allow restoring to point of failure (depending on cause of failure).
