The main reason to go with the third-party tools is that they usually offer a single-mailbox restore capability. NTBackup and the Win2K backup only backup/restore the entire Exchange Strore, so you have to restore to a different system and extract the one mailbox if that was all you needed to reco

If I remember correctly, the NTBackup that is included with NT 4.0 is a "lite" version of Backup Exec. It will perform an online backup of Exchange. I think 2000 is the same. I'm not sure if this can be done remotely without the Veritas version. Someone please jump in if I'm wrong. -Original
