Hi Phil
There are some interesting anomalies using a cable modem
1. If you change the physical network card, you must coldboot the network
modem (ie pull the power cord) for it to get a DHCP address
2. If you are using 2 network cards and use eth1 as DHCP to configure your
internal network,

Why is it that the default window environment in Mandrake is KDE but the

This is a complex problem, so be patient with my long-windedness please.
I upgraded my stock 7.2 system to kernel 2.4.1 recently. I'm having strange
problems with moving copying or downloading large files. After periods of
heavy disk activity, like copying several 100MB+ files, the montior
I'm trying to use CD-RWs to make installation disks

David,
I was reading on Deja that you were having difficulties with Linux and
Windows with the daylight savings. I'm not sure how you're experiencing it.
My problem is when I mount Windows shares on Linux. The wierd thing is
this. Windows has the correct time set.
Tommi,
Pardon me if the answer to my question is obvious, but where in the config do I put
this.

Hello all,
I originally made my "/" partition too large (only 2% is used) and now I want
to shrink it because the /usr partition is full. My plan is to save the "/"
partition, delete the partition and then create a new one. I have already
saved the /usr directories.
The question is, how do I
I just rebuilt a kernel (2.4.3-19mdk) after having built 3 previous kernels

make modules_install"
Same as always. The kernel builds just fine but when it comes to installing,

OK, it looks like I have finally gotten DRI working. The problem is the
default X resolution is too high. I would like to set it lower, to 1024x768,
but if I use any of the tools supplied by Mandrake to do this, it screws
everything up and sets the system up to use the original XFree86

You might want to insert a make dep in there (I usually do it immediately

I installed Mandrake 8 beta 3 on my laptop last week, and I tried firing
up MandrakeUpdate and it scans CD 1, CD 2, and then produces a

Has anyone seen this?
