It does not appear as if my XF86Config-4 file is the problem. There was no real difference between your snippets and my config. I even dug up a backup copy I made not long ago when the wheel was working properly, and there was no change in wheel behavior. What else governs mouse wheel behavior?

This is a total stab in the dark, but maybe GPM is messing you up. Try turning it off in /etc/sysconfig/mouse by setting the line wheel=yes to wheel=no and restarting X. If that works, why yes, I'm a genius. If not, I didn't think it would work anyway but it was worth a shot :) Best regards, D
