the em10k1 driver using a SB PCI512 sound card with a set of
altec-lansing speakers and I do notice a difference in the sound between
windows and linux. I'm just assuming it's the best the driver can do.

Yes, my control center is crashing. I found I had to install the RPM versions
of the Netscape 4.75 program to get things to work normally in gnome as well.
I had been running the version from ftp.netscape.com.

Thanks. I did a reinstall of the system, as I had only had it up for a
few days. This solved the problem of the swap device. I made a new
partition and used it for swap then.
