Hi
the module dc2xx prohibits gphoto2 to work as it can not get exclusive
rights to the USB device. Does anybody know how i can remove it
permanently. If I do a rmmod dc2xx it goes away, but comes back as soon
as the usb device is turned on

you can remove the file dc2xx.o in the module tree somewhere in
/lib/modules/ but do a backup of that file first.

I just updated an 8.2-RC1 machine to the 8.2 official release, and I'm
seeing the problem again myself. My .config, for anyone interested, is
attached.
Here are the kernel packages installed (rpm -qa | grep kernel), just after
I did the update:
kernel-secure-2.4.18.6mdk-1-1mdk
Problem solved -- for me, anyway. I saved my .config to a separate
area, did a make mrproper, then started the whole process over again
-- loaded my config, then repeated the whole compilation. Worked fine,
modules and all, no nasty errors.

This happened to me when I tried to compile a 2.4.18 Mandrake kernel on
Mandrake 8.1 a little while back. I had downloaded and installed the
kernel-source and kernel-headers RPMs from cooker (I think they were
version 2.4.18-something and 2.4.17-something, respectively, at the
time). I was
I do, but unless someone posts the .config its probably near impossible
to find a solution.

Bob, is that model 2903 or 2930? I've got the 2930 and it works out of the

Hi everyone,,
I have started getting hundreds of char-major messages in my logs..
it seems I have some aliases to setup in modules.conf,
can anyone point me in the right direction with these?

char-major-4 (possibly related to samba)
Hello all,
I'm trying to access a parallel port IDE drive (I had this working 3 or 4
years ago without a problem). The kernel supplied with Mdk 8.0 appears to
have been built with all of the required modules. However the error messages
seem to contradict that statement.
Anyway, if I type

I want to use this module to load my scsi CD-RW drive
Thanks

Roll your own - I built the kernel (actually just "make modules") using
the selections needed and copied the resulting sr_mod.o to the correct
modules directory Run depmod -av before using.

module vfat is for windows filesystems, right?
I don't have any windows partitions and this box will never see a windows

Can I zap the part which loads it from the mandrake-everytime init script or
will that cause problems somewhere?

ctrl-c does skip past the dependency check, but the modules don't work.
I tried to remove the module directory before I do make modules, but I
still have the same problem. I don't know what to do with "EXTRAVERSION
=". What do I do there? Any other suggestions? Also, one other
question.
ctrl-c when it stops when it hangs you'll get some trivial error messages
login and depmod -av to update the dependancy stuffs
If you didn't alter your 'EXTRAVERSION =' you have to mv the module
directory we provided or they will give problems with unresolved
dependancies.
On Mon, 18 Oct 1999,
I recently installed Mandrake 6.1 from scratch. I then recompiled the
kernel, but the system hangs on boot when it tries to find the module
dependencies. I can recompile without modules and the system boots
fine. However, my sound card is pnp, and I've never been able to get it
to work without

G'day,
Try reinstalling, procinfo-15-1.i386.rpm, with -ivv --force options and

No luck.
