Dear friends:
1) My system is an AMD K6-2 400 with 128 megs of real RAM (and a 256
swap file on LM72).
2) I am using the new Netscape 6.01, which just came out a few days ago.
This 6.01 version is based on the stable Mozilla .7, which came out in
January, while Netscape 6.0, which came out in No
Not only that, Netscape 6 is very undependable. I've never had it working properly.

Dear friends:
1) Installation:
I reinstalled Netscape 6.01 as ROOT, instead of user. I finally found
the netscape directory. See below. I was able to activate Netscape 6 and
launch it. However, since the initial launch, all I've been getting are
segmentation faults. Besides, I would like to run

just ignore it. The excitable is /usr/local/netscape/netscape.

I wish it were as simple as that...the file 'netscape' in the
/usr/local/netscape/ path is a script...pretty simple pretty much just tells the

How about /usr/local/netscape/netscape at the prompt? Or just ln -s
/usr/local/netscape/netscape
/usr/local/bin/netscape (or whatever) so you can forego the absolute path?

I've been looking thru documentation and using some trial and error to figure
out how to get a command in one of my bin paths in order to run Netscape 6. It
comes with its own installer and places files into usr/local/netscape/ and runs
with a script called netscape. The only way the docu
I believe there were issues with netscape 6 and SSL... I thought I read it
somewhere in the docs or on the site, not sure. Anyway, since netscape 6
installs separately from the old 4.7, I'd advise you to just stick to 4.7 for
those sites. There's more stuff in NS6 that's not working yet, and stil
Hi Lang,
It sounds like Netscape 6 does not support the SSL version being used by the
sites you are attempting to access. I use Netscape 4.72 with 128 bit
encryption so I do not know about Netscape 6 but you can look at the
documentation to see what kind of SSL Netscape 6 works with, if it works

In sharing, I did forget that top shows this silly browser using 36Mb
from 64. Even so, it seems to coexist with StarOffice on this 64M machine
without a lot of disk-thrashing.

Yes. I've got a K6-2 3xx here with 32 mb RAM and plenty of
drive space. I downloaded and extracted it. I started it up
and it really didn't do anything. Looked interesting, but
that's about it. YMMV
