Actually, the wires are in reverse order. This is so wire 1 at
one cable end connects to wire 1 at the other cable end. If you butt the
end of the cable plugs together, the wires should
match, If I'm remembering correctly.

With the hook underneath and the cable pointing away from you.
1 Orange Str.
2 Orange
3 Green Str.
4 Blue
5 Blue Str.
6 Green
7 Brown Str.
8 Brown.

You should keep the pairs together, but other than that, no, AFAIK, it
doesn't matter which order the pairs are in, as long as you keep 'em
together.
