Thanks! Your the first guy who sounded like he might know what I was
talking about. ;-)
If you are using cups and printing from the cl you can use a default
options file "/etc/cups/lpoptions " and include any of the job options
Mine has :

On every printer (and there have been probably 5 or 6) I have ever tried
to use with Linux I have had the following problem.
The first line prints right on the top border of the printable area
meaning that only half of it actually gets printed. Now there should be
a way to adjust this but I've

I have downloaded a pdf file that I wish to print. It is only 8 pages long and
306k in size. I have an HP Deskjet 845C, Mandrake 8.2, using cups. I have
also tried different drivers - CUPS and Gimp print, foomatic and Gimp print,
and Gimp print and hpij. None have worked to print this file.
I am running KDE 2.1 with cups-1.1.6, kups-1.1-4mdk, qtcups-2.1-7mdk. I have
an Epson Color Stylus 600. I can startup and testprint from kups as
superuser/root but if I try this as a user, kups freezes up and bogs down my
whole system - kpm indicates in the neighborhood of 99% CPU usage. Th
Mandrake 7.2 (and all the betas) use CUPS as printing system, so you
cannot use printtool for printer administration. Use kups or go to
http://localhost:631/ instead.

xpp is fine. I can then print text, pdf and graphic files but anything kde
(koffice kmail etc) defaults back to lpr. Trying to print say a kword doc
through xpp results in an error message saying that 'the request format is
not understood by this server'

I'm wondering if anyone else has had a printing problem similar to this one.
I'm using the first Ulysses beta release that had 1.93 on it. Over this I've
installed the 1.99 rpm's.
Using PrintDrake I can configure my machine for my HP LaserJet.
Then using printtool for a test page I get a messa

Hi Everybody!
Hope you people can help. I've been pulling my hair out trying
to get one of my users to print. I used the printtool from the Mandrake
7.1 distribution to setup a printer on an users box. The /etc/printcap
looks exactly like the one on my redhat 6.2 box. The printing here i

John, try this:
Edit your etc/conf.modules file and add the following if it's not there
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
Save, reboot and see if your printing comes back. This may work, it used
to on 6.1 machines.

I don't seem to have a "parport_lowlelvel" module. I'm using a
custom-compiled kernel. Did I screw something up when I compiled it?
I *do* have a parport_probe.o, but that's it as far as the paralell
port devices go... I just want to be able to use my Canon BJC1000
printerdo I need to recompil
