I tried grub for a VERY brief time. I then simply replaced it by running
lilo. I didn't have to do anything fancy-schamancy, just ran lilo - it
eliminated grub and next time I rebooted, there was lilo.

You must have lilo installed to use this method, not grub.
How to get to this file was contained in what follows.
"/etc/lilo.conf" is the full instruction - it gets you to the file.
I have not suggested which text editor to use since

The first letter of the extension of the file is the letter "l", not the
number one. You might want to try
# pico /boot/grub/menu.[TAB]
then you will see what files there are, and you are sure to get one that
exists.

Hi all,
I`m using mandrake 7.1 and it only sees 64 of my 128 of ram. I went to
mandrakeuser.org and found the following - edit /boot/grub/menu.1st as root then
"find" kernel (hd0,5)/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda6. I`m supposed to append mem=128 to the
end of that line.I`m using pico to edit the file.
Mandrake only sees 64 of my 128 of ram. How do I edit this file to correct this ? edit
/boot/grub/menu.1st then Im supposed to "find" kernel (hd0,5)/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda6
and append mem=128. Someone has to know how this is done here. So I open pico then
what ? How do I "find" kernel
You can use any text editor...if the space to type in the amount of RAM is
blank, just type it in...if the space has something in it, delete it, and
type in the new amount. Then save.
Good luck!

Hi all,
Have an issue with my ram and would like a solution to this issue. 2.3.2 Specifying
Memory Size in GRUB
Edit the file /boot/grub/menu.1st as root and find the line which specifies your
kernel. It should look similar to:
kernel (hd0,5)/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda6
Append "mem=nnnM" to the end
