Just needed to change the word KDE for GNOME in /etc/sysconfyg/desktop.

That is determined by the shell script /etc/X11/prefdm. It looks at
a file /etc/sysconfig/desktop. To switch to using gdm simply do:
echo GNOME > /etc/sysconfig/desktop
