I believe MMY said on a tape or two that I've heard (perhaps on several
occasions), that Guru Dev taught something that "must be better" than
TM.
Could have been one of the tapes was titled "Guru Dev and the full
moon,"
that I recall watching on TTC and some other courses as well.

practice of TM so widely without knowing about the mechanics first-hand.

In this case, he says "meditate on" Sri Yantra and its bija because that

In 2001 SSRS had Durga Devi on his personal altar. Saw it myself. His
father and family were followers of SBS, so I'm thinking that it was
SOP. However, as a mahaa-pandita he could have used any devataa he
wished - but he chose her.

Most likely a "guru mantra" probably given to him by Brahmananda
Saraswati. Usually those are different for each disciple.
