Neil,
I have not had this happen, but feel this is a good
thing. So many vets just chalk up illnesses to FeLV
if a cat tests positive (and many times, the tests can
be wrong), and then give up on treating the actual
illness because they have such a negative view of
FeLV. Now you guys can focus

Hi Neil,
Welcome to the FeLV group. I am sorry to hear that
your kitty is having such a hard time. This group is
probably the BEST place for you to have landed because
there are so many knowledgeable people here.
As far as anemia goes, I am no expert, and lost my
kitty to it two months ago.
Hi Neil,
I am going through exactly this with my bailey, he is also anemic and
just had a bone marrow aspirate yesterday. Take a deep breathe and then
read on:
Has your furchild been tested for hemobartenella, it is the cause of
anemia in positives more often than not, and just so you
Neil,
Sorry read your meesage too fast, I see she is on doxy, how long has
she been? It takes a minimum of a full 3 weeks for it to take care of hemo.

Hello Neil,
I'm so very sorry to hear this news about your little baby. Everyone
on this list understands the depth of your emotion at a time like
this. It isn't possible for you to "blabber", sometimes it helps to
pour your heart out to those that understand. If you read back in the
archives,

Hi Neil,
You need to find out if her anemia is the regenerative type (or the
non-regenerative type). The Doxy and Pred may help if she has a blood
parasite called Hemobartonella (which doesn't always show up on a blood
smear). Ask your vet if she is a candidate

Hi Neil,
It does sound like you've been able to secure the best medical care
possible for Anastasia. Could you please tell us what specialty
hospital you have found for her? It might help someone else. Poor
little girl has been through so much, I'm glad she's feeling well enough
to at
Neil,
Hemo can be non-regenerative as well as regenerative.

Hi Belinda Thank you I will check with the vet this afternoon whenI see her I am pretty much a wreck my home vet had me quite hope full that we were going to beat this and the vet at the clinic has laid me out a totally different outcome, I was so upset yesterday whenI left the clinic
Neil,
Kerry's cat Bandy went from a fairly low HCT back up to
32 from being on a combination of meds and supplements. If no one has forwarded
you one of the emails describing Bandy's regimen I can forward it to you, since
I saved it.
It kind of depends on the cause of the anemia. If it
It sounds like her anemia is nonregenerative. Which to me means one of two
things-- that it is lymphoma in her bone marrow, or that it is kidney-related
and epogen might help.
My Simon had lymphoma in his bone marrow, and chemotherapy along with some
heavy steroids when he first went out
I was wrong in one of the things I said in my last email, then. I hope it
is hemo.

I would keep giving the doxy, it isn't going to hurt her and vets
have been wrong about hemo before. I know a girl who is in Florida were
hemo is pretty common and she has had her cats test negative 5 times
before it finally showed on the test. Thankfully she was giving her cat
doxy
