Quixtar, formerly, Amway has an industrial degreaser that we use in the
mill. It really cuts the grease.

We take the agitator out. The Maytags work best because they have less
"stuff" the fits up inside the agitator.
There is a screw holding the agitator in place. You can also fix it so that
it only spins. If you dismantle the lid
switch, you can leave the lid up while it spins. I pay betwe

The newer washers have a higher spinning RPM than the older top loaders.

Here at the mill we use Sam's Club, powdered detergent in the 5 gal bucket.
Works great. It is high alkaline and that is what breaks down the grease.
It actually turns it into soap. Hot water over 140 degrees. On really
greasy fleeces we use Amway's, industrial degreaser in the seco
will clean their fiber pretty well
before sending it to a processor. However, those that
have the animals as guard animals or pasture ornaments, don't do a very
good job of cleaning before sending the fiber for
processing.

I would suggest you send a sample to which ever mill you decide to use. 1

deficency. The scruff doesn't come out, even in carding on carding machines.
I would go back to the person you bought the fiber from and tell them they
misrepresented it and you would like your money back.

Have you tried the Mangus Drudik wheel, made in Salem. I know there are
some in the Snohomish Valley
Spinning Guild you could try. I have a saxony, which he doesn't make any
more and his castle. Love them both.
The castle is easier to transport and both spin really easy, are dt.

Others have mentioned that the Louet wheels have a stronger draft than
other wheels and some have trouble doing the finer
shorter fibers. You might try crossing the leader from cup hook, to cup
hook, across the flyer. That will help reduce the draft.

slippery by themselves. Try not to use anything by detergent when washing
your fibers to send to processors. Above all, don't store in moth balls.

are working on projects that are either out of a book bought in the shop or

paper from most drug stores and test. pH 7 is neutral, higher is alkaline

The detergents are Basic H and SA8 for the two products I'm using. About 1.5
oz per 10 lbs of fiber. From what I've read in the Fannin and Amos books
that is what happens.
