A small cautionary tale.
It appears Vuescan's 'Slide' setting may result in blown out highlights, at
least for my Acer (perhaps it is related to the lack of exposure
control..?). I would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced
the following.
A challenging (!) Ektachrome I

That's a pity - doesn't sound promising for Calidad ink.

Using Vuescan with slides I have found that media type image and white
balance produce the best results most of the time. I only consider any other
options when I find I am not getting decent results. When I do try various
other combinations or scanning software I rarely produce anything better.
I recently had my Minolta Dual II replaced by Minolta, after only owning
it a week. The second one has lower noise in the shadow areas than
the first.
The first had a lot of green noise in the dense areas (on slides) which
I noted lessened quite a bit using Vuescan. I haven't tested the new

FWIW, McAfee shuts me down using graphics on a small RAM base. For some
unknown reason, it makes backups of each scan as I do them, and crashes the
program (sometimes the system) after one or two scans. That might not be a
problem if I bought more RAM, but I bought Norton, instead.

Hi!
I have used Vuescan for about 18 months now, with a Minolta Dimage Scan Multi
scanner. Ed Hamrick developed the drivers for this scanner by having me
testing all changes he made, so I feel quite involved in Vuescan.
I have essentially doing all my stuff at home with Linux for six years

No, I tried all that! When I've updated SF in the past or reinstalled the
first thing I got when launching the program was the serial number input.

I do a lot of my basic image processing with ImageMagick. I use gPhoto
to upload from my digital camera. I've written tcl/tk routines to turn
the images into digital photo albums. However, all my computers are Mac,
so I use LinuxPPC. If I had a LinuxPPC version of Vuescan, I would never
need to

I'm having a devil of a time getting my new HP 5370 to work with Win2K. Its

pretty well. This evening I tried to scan my first color
