Yo folks,
I have had multiple crashes when opening a document and starting playback.
Finale pops up Pre-processing file for human playback. (press Esc to skip)
Retrieving score items and get stuck on 33% or 35 % then Window deems
Finale to have stopped working. Waiting does not help, neither

OK,
spent some hours nailing down the error.
I tried the Data check utility, but that didn't change anything.
Turning off the HP did it. But why?
After some experimenting I found that the problem seems to be related to
falls/trills, but not in a way that seems logic.
After having removed more
I'm working on a piece for String Orchestra, but it has a second cello part.
(The instrumentation is Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello I, Cello II, String
Bass.) My question concerns the cello part. Should I extract the cello parts
together in one part on two staves, or in separate parts, like
Ryan, better to have two separate parts, just like Violin I Violin II.
The less to look at and process, the better.

In general, you DO want to have SEPARATE cello parts rather than two staves per
system. There will be too much page turning and visual confusion otherwise.
Here are some exceptions:

OK, but you need to add 2 falls (by using the glissando tool) in the file to
trigger the bug.
AND SOMETHING ELSE: I now feel even more certain that this bug is introduced
in Finale 2010a (or perhaps 2010). I just opened a file that was created in
Finale 2007 (also containing falls), let Finale do
And now I tried to open a file that I am pretty sure was created with 2010
that worked fine but contained no falls.
Just adding one fall to an arbitrary note caused the playback to hang and
Finale to crash...oh happy day :-(

I have found a solution for the score lists bug in Fin 2009.
I could never get the tempo markings to show on top staff of parts
even though it was checked.
What I discovered was that if you uncheck and then re-check show on
top staff it will show up on the top staff of each part. This is
Hi Michael - Thanks so much for the information Michael. I was thinking of
uploading the PDF's of my score and
also sending in a physical CD with the same PDF's; however, I think
I'll just do the upload. (The woman on the phone told me that one could
upload and send in but I don't see anything on
