[Finale 2009]
I am encountering a range of unexpected results from playback. I have tried
VST instruments (with and without human playback) and normal MIDI, but all
suffer from the same problems.
1) If I play from the beginning I hear all the parts, but if I start playback
elsewhere, some
3) A tempo change (crotchet = 60 becomes crotchet = 90) only lasts about 1/2
bar before reverting to the previous tempo.
When this happens to me, I use Jari Williamsson's JW Tempo plugin to
force it to manually override the unpredictable vagaries.

One thing you could try if you haven't already:
Click on the speaker icon button on the Playback Controls toolbar, then on
the
Playback/Record Options button near the bottom of the panel. Check that you
have
Selected Chase from First Measure in the Dynamics and markings box.
Hope it helps
Hello Jef,
Selecting the Adobe PDF printer to print a PDF no longer works in 10.6. If
you are on 10.6 using Adobe Acrobat Distiller, FinaleScript will not help
you. If you have QuicKeys write a sequence to bring up the print dbx, select
Save As Postscript under the PDF pull-down menu, and send
Michael,
About your playback problem, if you have Human Playback activated, you
might try a different playback type (or none). I found out last July
that at least one of the Human Playback modes (Jazz) has a feature
which degrades playback.

please read Jazz as Romantic; it is the Romantic HP style which
degrades playback; Jazz does not.

It's a longstanding bug that most expressions chase from measure one, but
keyswitches don't (say, arco to pizz, mutes, and for all I know maybe softer
versions of some instruments.)
Balance is a tricky issue, because one can't expect a p trumpet to be balanced
with a p flute in its bottom
jeez, sounds far more complicated and time-consuming than printing 70
individual files to PDF...

That's my experience as well. The Romantic setting does some nice things
with dynamic and tempo shape, but also produces some degraded

Then it must be a Finale compatibility problem. I've had no trouble
with Mac OS 10.6.4 printing to PDF in any program, including

If you read my first post you may have noticed that I said.
Frankly, I would say that if you have an old 10.4 machine around, use that
as a PDF creator.
I've beem saying that this problem is specifically a 10.6 problem. Of
course, 10.4 works.
Maybe this will help you understand the issue.
Here is the reason I go straight to Postscript to a watched folder. I don't
want my PDFs mucked up with Apple's PDF engine and then Distilled.

Is there a plugin that can combine/simplify two layers into one?
