I have had a similar problem in the past but couldn't find a solution. I

Sib or musescore or something else that reads xml and see if the problem is

Thanks for the advice, Klaus and Raymond, but no luck so far.
The file was based on an ensemble template (not a pre-existing work,
overwritten) so I have created a new ensemble template, copied across
the music from the old file. This didn't fix the problem, so I copied
the music up to a point
Try this: Select all file, go to Edit/ edit filter. Then, in filter,
select only "midi data" and erase using filter. If that doesn't fix
it, go back and add other elements to the filter (expressions, etc.)
