Hi Darcy,
This worked for a while. Then the problem returned and would not respond to
this solution. I am having serious navigation problems with 2014. It seems
awfully buggy to me.

Hi Chuck,
Did you try clicking in the whitespace of the menu bar? Clicking on an actual
menu item doesn't solve the issue, the click needs to be in the whitespace.
Cheers,

Thanks, nice to know it's not just me. The behavior is erratic and not easy to
describe. There seem to be real bugs.

Hi Chuck,
You need to click in Finale's menubar to resolve the Fin2014 focus issues —
clicking the application icon does not work.
Regarding scrolling, I haven't seen the problems you describe, but have you
tried turning off inertial scrolling?
Hi Darcy,
Just looked for this:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Accessibility.
Click the Mouse Options button.
Got this far - and then
In the Scrolling menu, choose without inertia.
But there is no Scrolling Menu - so no place to turn off inertial scrolling.
(OS 10.8.5)
And - I just closed the other open apps, and the problem persists.
Of course, other apps are open in the background - Mail and Safari, for
instance, and QuicKeys, but nothing active in the finder.
This is a drag, and I can't figure it out.

Hi Chuck,
Are you using a trackpad? If so, try clicking Trackpad Options. (Or maybe
even try doing this regardless, as I think trackpad options also affects the
scrolling surface on the Magic Mouse.)

Neither - Logitech MX mouse.
Found the without inertia control in the trackpad options - makes no difference.
Ugh.

Quitting Finale and re-opening it cures the problem - but only temporarily.
So - what could cause this to happen after Finale is open a while? Memory
issues? No idea.

Hi Chuck,
Regarding the scroll view scrolling, you might possibly consider switching to
iKey as your marco/keyboard shortcut creator. I have shortcuts programmed to
click the measure forward and measure back buttons in Fin2014, as well as
the screen forward and screen back buttons, and I have
Hi Darcy,
Not sure if iKey does all that QuicKeys can do (and I have inherited many well
constructed shortcuts from my engraver friend, Greg Hamilton in Vancouver) even
though QuicKeys has (theoretically, at least) not been supported for OSX… for
years. The shortcuts and macros seem to still
Great! Thanks Darcy.

Yes, there are bugs. The one you mention happens when the hairpins extend to
the end of the measure. It renders the Smart Find and Paste feature nearly
unusable. There are a number of other deeply annoying bugs - scrolling issues
that occur when Finale has been open for a while, making
There is also a startup bug for those with Apple displays. Forced me back to

From the sounds of Chuck and Craig, that's where I'll stay.

Hi Chuck,
I believe the trigger for the arrows not working in Speedy is when an autosave
is triggered while a different application is in the foreground. The solution
to this (and many other similar bugs in Fin2014) is to click in the menu bar.
This restores focus to Finale — something that is
Hi Darcy,
If this works, that will be a considerable help. This is similar to what
happens when you click Finale Playback and another app is in front and you
can't stop the Finale playback until you bring Finale to the front again. I
will try this. Thank you, Darcy.

In my case, I think the hairpins went to beat 4 (not literally to the
edge of the measure), but maybe that is what you mean. And it doesn't
screw up on all of them -- just some of them. But it makes such a mess
that you can't really use the tool.

Yes, that's what I meant, and MM is aware of the bug, for whatever that is
worth.

It really is a shame because 2014 is a good release in many respects.
The Windows version has caused me relatively few problems, but this
smart copy one is enough to drive one batty.
I had hoped they had turned the corner after taking so much time to get
2014 out.
