I think, after an amazing amount of fruitless searching, that I've
found the passage you're pointing me to. It comes under the heading,
"Voicing for Staff in Part", not easy to find when you think that your
searching for something along the lines of...dividing/separating

Apply voicing rules to your linked parts. There's an excellent section
in the Finale documentation that covers how to do this in detail.
