Johannes is absolutely right -- a very large "lift" value is crucial,
and of course the "initial adjustment" needs to be lift, not stretch.

I feel this way too and always work with engraver slurs off. I've seen so many people having trouble with it that I feel good with this decision. The engraver slurs need need tweaking anyway. And since articulations can be taken into consideration in the placement I still get some benefits too. But

I'm orchestrating an older piece of mine written for a chamber ensemble.
The original phrasing and dynamics apply enough to the new score so that
it's worth importing that material and spreading it around as desired. So
far, so good.
The original file was created in an old enough versi
