B. I had to choose between selfupdate-r

the prompt, I just get and error that reads "Command not found".
I want to thank all of you for your support, but I will not be trying to

evolution 1.4.6 due to its inability to connect to an exchange server.

to remove openssl097-dev and install gnome-vfs2-ssl and had to reissue

Let's back up a bit first.
What happens when you start X11? Does a window manager open? You need to
have an environment in which evolution can run. If you start X11 and you
let it start up you need to open an xterm shell (much like a Mac
Terminal shell).Window managers are called from your .xinitr
