After many, MANY hours of trying to get Gaim working in Apple's X11
using Fink, I finally reached sucess last night. YAY!
I have a PowerBook. At home I use it "stand-alone". I was home last
night. This morning, I come in to work and set up my PowerBook,
hooking it up to the 15"
Well, I restarted X11 and now it works.
Any idea if I'll have to do that every time I connect/disconnect my
display? I'm not in the habit of quitting any of my apps. I just
close the lid and move on!

/etc/fonts/fonts.conf file and I copied into my directory. I didn't
even HAVE a 'fonts' directory in /etc!!!
But all my Xapps still look like crap. Is there a font expert in the house?
