Are there any special fink packages that need to be installed in order
to have an xterm display UTF-8 encoded characters? I have the standard
xfree86-base, xfree86-rootless and xfonts installed (and up to
date).Thanks,
Paul

to MacOS X is still something new.
If your goal is to run a Gnome desktop then you'll be a lot happier
with a cheap i386 box. Fink is for people who have chosen to run MacOS X
and want to be able to run unix apps on that platform.

This brings up an interesting point. Many of these programs (not the one you
listed here but the ones on the web site) are only marginally stable on
their native platform (in most cases Linux). So what's your definition of
stable as far as Fink is concerned? Mine would be that the software runs as
Type 'which install' and see where install is running from. Perhaps you have
a bad version somewhere. My install supports a -d switch and gives a
completely different usage screen.

said the default was to preserve my config files but it
overwrote them anyhow. Perhaps I just misunderstood the screen. No big
deal as the only non default setting I use is to turn X11 forwarding
on.

. This did the trick and I was then able to do a
'apt-get update' and start installing binary packages.

Mac. Such as the commercial product
X-Tools from Tenon software.
Assuming you don't have X-Tools you want to install xfree86-base and
then xfree86-server or xfree86-rootless before you can proceed to such
things as gtk.

There is a new security bulletin on a hole in ucd-snmp. Do we know if
the fink package will be updated soon?
