Wow, this is spooky. I'm leaving in the early morning for the San Juan
Islands to do some kayaking. Never even heard of them before my husband
planned this trip. Now somebody says there might be Fjordies there, too?
This trip just got

Yes, I was talking about true grey horses, such as in Lipizzaners. In this
case we were talking about a warmblood foal rather than a Fjord. The grey
gene is a dominant and, if present, will express itself. So if you have a
non-grey baby

Not sure if he'll be black or gray - Mom's black and
Dad,Juventus is a bay.
To be a gray, he must have at least one gray parent.

According to Jeanette Gower, in her book Horse Colour Explained, under the
heading Red Dun, There are several types of red dun, all named as a result
of a darker or lighter chestnut base colour. These are listed in the shaded
chart above

Here's my next color question, and Mike, you probably have the answer to
this. Is kvit an accepted color for Fjords, or is it like the QH registry,
they will not register cremellos?
Just wondering, since with a kvit you could breed uls

I had to laugh about the Swedish name thing. I've given my two Fjords good
ole Aussie names! :^)

Hey Linda, what's up with this swedish name for your NORWEGIAN fjord

Dear Jean and List:
I, too, love the rarer Fjord colors, being now a proud owner of two red
duns. But I'm curious, Jean, what is a yellow dun in Fjord-speak? I
thought there were the five (or six, depending on how you look at it) colors

You're a peach! I think I'll give it a try. Need to contact the FBA about
my gelding anyway. Thanks for the info.
Cheers!

I think you will find that the breeder of this horse was Cliff Baltzley in

Thanks to everyone who replied to my inquiry both on and off list. Although
I don't know anything further about my new mare, you were all very positive.
I once again marvel at having a community of friends whom I've never met

I purchased a fjord mare at auction but she didn't come with papers. Just
wondering if anyone knows her or her story. She's about 6 yo, just under
14hh, and a red dun. Currently, she's very fat -- maybe 200 lbs overweight

May even fit. One must exercise in making excursions, no?

Usually we can decipher a person's misspelling but the computer gave me
excursive when I was trying to spell exercise. I

Wow, of the two breeds I don't think cross well, Fjord and Haflinger are it.
And there it was in one horsie!
BTW, if they get that kind of money for a crossbred, just think what the
full blooded critters cost there at Petaluma! :^O

I saw these sweaters at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. They are

I've been following the fjord color discussion, and enjoying it, but I do
have some questions and observations. This post may get a bit long, so some
may want to scroll past.
Here's what I understand as basics. If I'm wrong

I also would like to ask you what color you think that the white duns are.
You know, the brown dun is genetically a bay with a dun dilution, and the
greys are genetically black with a dun dilution, and the yellow duns are
genetically chestnuts

Dear List:
Mary's post concerning the number of fjords showing up at auctions made me
wonder: Is there any fjord rescue set up, much like many dog breeds have,
to intervene and find new owners before a horse gets shipped off to a sale

Troyer's is held at the Adams County Fairgrounds near Brighton, Colorado.
Traditionally it's been a draft horse, mule and equipment auction held over
two days, lots of carriages and harness for sale, as well as wagonloads of
sundries

Hi Sher!
Here's what I can tell you about the fjords I've seen at Troyer's. I
attended the July auction and the October auction.
In July there was only one fjord. A 5yo gelding, about 14.2hh, with lovely
striping on the legs. He was well

If there is a Colorado Fjord group/club, I'd be interested. :^)
BTW, I bought my fjord at Troyer's. He's coming along nicely, and I hope to
have him driving this spring. He came to me only green broke to ride, so
we're starting mostly

Dear Fellow Listers:
I am coming out of lurkdom because I must tell someone my exciting news.
First, I'm a new lister and new fjord owner of 2 months now. He's a 4 yo
red dun, about 13.2hh. I bought him at auction and brought him home Oct

Dear Mike:
Since you're the registrar for the NFHR, maybe you can enlighten me.
I recently purchased a lovely Fjord gelding registered with the FBA, but not
the NFHR. On researching his pedigree through the NFHR website, I find
