Hello,
The keying problem kept me off the air for about a month after I received
my 5000A. I posted on the problem recently (ca. 2/10) to see if anyone
might have a fix for direct keying via the key jack.
I took the advice of several Flexers and installed a serial card on my
computer. As of
Hi Dudley,
Thanks for the link. I have tried all the setups in this link and cleaned
the contacts on the paddles several times (the paddles work fine with my
other rig). The problem is still there. What's frustrating is it works for
a little while then hangs up. My CPU usage is around 12% and
I kind of wish Rob would have tested the F5K, K3 and Orion down to lets say 100
hz on the narrow dynamic range. The radios have the capability to perform
there, and it gets inside the roofing filter which is really a crutch that
was developed by Ten Tec to win the numbers game. In the Orion-2
I will check out the settings but if I recall the settings are pretty much what
is mentioned in the article. Key contacts might be applicable if the key were
directly inserted into the radio, however, I also have a WKUSB and it is
suffering the same issues. I should mention I do not have this

This is a bug that we thought we corrected in December. This is the first I
have heard of it since then. We will look into it post haste.

Thanks for the info Rob. I've been a radio amateur for about 15 years and in
all that time there has never been a radio that is so much fun to operate as my
SDR1000. So perhaps you can include a test for the enjoyment factor of a
radio or somesuch.
Numbers? We don't need no stinkin'
A couple of days ago I heard a few hams discussing the connection of an SDR1000
to the 8.3 IF output of a Kenwood TS-870 and sucessfully viewing band activity
when the SDR1000 was tuned to 8.3 Mhz. Has anyone ever heard of this
application? I agree that this would make for a rather expensive
I was one of the guys involved in the test. I do not own an 870 (yet) but
was suggesting to my friend to try it.
You need to set the Flex to 8.83 MHz and connect a cable from the TS-870 IF
Out 1 to the Flex ant in. The Flex will work as a panadapter display for
the 870.
The cable my friend

I hope this is the right place to post this query?

two small problems to resolve before
PowerSDR would run OK.

Is anyone using an FA-66 on an Imac running Windows XP in bootcamp? If so,
please email me back as I have a customer struggling to get the FA-66 ASIO
driver to ship up properly in this configuration.

You will be able to run it just fine. It may choke at higher sampling rates
though. Also, you will need to avoid too much multitasking while running
the radio for smooth audio.
Note that we recommend a dual core CPU minimum in order to run the highest
sample rates and multitask without audio
It is the same way classic panorama adapters are connected to
receivers. The bandwidth of te receiver (before the point where the
signal is tapped to the SDR1000) is the max usable span of the
panadapter.
I do not know how the signal is connected out of the TS850.
In the classic situation the

Greetings, all. I have a friend who owns a Flex 5000A. He informed me
yesterday that something 'has happened' to the rig in the past few days and
that it was showing no RF output. He's asked me to help him (remotely)
diagnose the problems - I'm in Illinois, he's in Florida. We'll be using

Why not test at really close spacing?
The real limit will usually be phase noise at 1 kHz or closer.
I may have made an error on an earlier post.
The IMD DR3 of the K3 with the 500 Hz 5-pole roofing filter and 500 Hz DSP
filter was a combination of phase noise and

I said building the test jig might be problematic.
This criticism doesn't change the fact that just because you measure
something it does not make what your measuring is worthwhile. Your comment
about RX performance not changing much is precisely the point. We keep
measuring and
I'm using an old HP Vectra 420 with a 2.8GHz P-4, and
1.5GB of 400MHz memory, and it runs the radio just
fine. Even while doing some other minor things, like
having Acrobat Reader open to read the manual, it runs
just fine. I don't recall ever seeing the PowerSDR CPU
usage going over 40%, and that

There have been a number of requests to interface PowerSDR to CW
Skimmer in a wideband mode.
To facilitate that I have posted a version of PowerSDR that supports
direct VAC output of 48khz. This has been tested with CW Skimmer.
It is availabe in the SVN branch w2rf/bin/release.

Sounds great Ed. I use Skimmer all the time to monitor the bands. Do
you need to use the latest release of VAC?

Indeed.. but probably doable in some form, and worth pursing, in some form.

One can test radios with really clean OCXOs, but that does not give
much flexibility.

And, interestingly, Rob Sherwood agrees with you (If I can presume to
speak for him, based on my reading his commentary.. he'll probably
weigh in) He comments on the problem of making decisions on numbers
that actually have fairly high uncertainty.
Ok, I will weigh in.
