I am just hoping and praying that I won't have to run Windows anymore.

You should be able fix this with a simple adjustment to your antenna. If
you currently have a cloud-warmer low band antenna, just invert it - making
it into a makeshift "ground warmer". A couple of KW of power should do it.

I sure hope the new architecture arrives soon, I've already exceeded the
snow blower gas budget for 2009!

The max operating temp for the FLEX-5000 noted in the manual is out of date
(122F is too low). The current version of PowerSDR has a color coded temp
scale that is correct. See the following KC article

Tim,
Thanks for the info. Can the PowerSDR S/dBm meter be recalibrated to
compensate for the additional RX gain (I have a calibrated signal source)?
I know how to do it with the Softrock board that I've played with, but when
I select the 5000 all of the calibration options disappear.
Thanks,
Clay, I have used both the ARR and the DownEast preamps on 6 meters. You
need one or the other to work weak signal 6 meters on the SDR5000! I can see
no preformance difference in either. i.e. one is good as the other.
Your noise floor will be to high on 6 meters to take advantage of the .5db

The 5000 manual states max operating temperature is 122 degrees F.
Will the 3000 meet the same spec? What is the storage temp for the
radios? I would like to use the 3000 as a mobile radio.

FYI
I just finished building a DEM 6m LAN unit for my 5000A and I found that it
made way more than the advertised gain when I tuned it on my 8970A Noise
Figure Test Set ... I installed all the gain reducing resistors and it was
still 22dBgain as I recall (28 without any).

Clay,
I looked at both of those preamps too. I eventually decided on a Down East
Microwave 6MLNA in conjunction with a narrow bandpass filter (ICE 412). One
reason was it had a lower gain value than the ARR unit. But you don't have to
worry too much about the output gain since you can mitigate
I just ordered my Flex 5000A and now need to decide which 6M preamp to use,
but I'm now sure how much gain is needed. My 6M interests include weak
signal (EME, tropo and M/S) and contests where I have a few really loud
local signals to contend with.
I've looked at the ARR P50VDG which has 24
