If I had any, I never would have started down this road and I certainly
would have gotten off before HALF A DECADE had passed!
Seriously, use this at your own risk. We are really hanging it out
there with this, trying all sorts of stuff with the new IDE.

I think they're going to debut version 2 at Dayton.
I'm guessing that it will run on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

I am selling my Flex SDR-5000A. The radio is immaculate. I am the
second owner. The invoice from Flex from the original purchaser was
dated 5-23-2008. This was a Dayton Hamvention sale and I believe that
the original purchaser never used the radio. The radio has the built in
antenna tuner. I w
Assuming a low impedance mic and input and equal shielding, balanced
will always pick up less interference (common mode cancels out). We
frequently use 75 and 100 foot mike cable runs when recording performers
without an issue.
50 years ago (I was K3DNO then) most all ham equipment expected a
The bottom line is that using the same mic, there is no audio quality or
character differences between using balanced vs. unbalanced configuration
assuming there are no other factors affecting the audio quality, such as a
ground loop or RFI.

Have been following this line for a while, going back to the original
question, about audio quality being better using a balanced mic or a
std 2 wire mic. Did anybody come up with a conclusion? I always found
audio quality about the same ,but the balanced always seemed to handle
hum and rf prob
I hesitate to comment on this topic since already today my ideas on various
subjects have been strenuously rejected but to carry the discussion to the
extreme of shortness I would mention that when I consider feedlines, rather
than mike cable, I do use long bulkhead connectors to bring the balanced
One solution to this may be to make sure that the built in soundcard is
selected as the default device (rather than the FLEX-5000 audio or VAC).

Interesting...
What sort of antenna and feeder design do you have? Do you have the preamp
on?

Mismatch doesn't affect shielding.
If you transition from your balanced openwire line to the pair of coaxes,
there's no reason why there should be any currents on the outside of the
coax shield. If there were, you could always choke it with the usual
appropriate ferrite or powdered metal cores.

Orion and Icom Pro performed normally. I assume it must have been the static
from snow. Is this a weak point with the RX? What can I do to prevent it
happening again and again? This is a third time SDR5000A went deaf. I
Be sure to put your wish(S) on the features requests list. Later this month,
we will use the list to develop a priority list of features for inclusion in
upcoming releases of PowerSDR.

This is only true if the coax is properly matched, on both ends, to its

Hi Jay,
I have seen same problem, and this happens if I have used wrong soundcard
(Flex Radio 5000 SPDIF) on the TX or input on DM780 or other digital
Software.
In my case is DM 780 setup for:
Input device is Virtual Cable 2 and Source is Line, Output Device is Virtual
Cable 1 and Device Wave.
