The answer to both of your questions is in the 6000-series datasheet:

A word about porting any code between architectures...
PowerSDR is built with primarily with standard Microsoft Windows development
components, and some rather ancient DSP routines. This is exactly what the
OpenHPSDR lead programmers found when using version 1.X as the basis for PSDR
mRX.

Hi Folks,
Can
OK, let's step back for a moment...
Flex has provided connectivity into and out of their radios, and indeed do not
support third-party programs. They provide information about connecting to
third-party programs that was relevant at the time it was authored, and is
still very accurate. The
I don't understand the rationale for feeding a $2500-$7500 piece of equipment
from a supply with a less-than-stellar history, when lab equipment is available
at hobbyist prices:
BK Precision 3-15VDC 40A switching supply for about $300:
And if you chase down schematics for these:

...you see a very rudimentary, SCR-crowbar, non-temperature compensated hobby
supply. Why not pay an another $100 to better protect a $7K radio?

The major real-world differences/benefits:
- Elimination of a poorly supported datalink (Apple FireWire)
- Low-bandwidth networking, by virtue of the DSP being located in the radio,
provides excellent performance -even over WiFi
- Very easy to get digital audio into and out of the radio.
I am comparing a working 5K installation to a prospective 6X00 purchase. All
of my comments are relative to any given 5K installation, and I did not take
proper FireWire and VAC function as a given, as many people struggle with
these subsystems. FireWire and VAC performance differ from
Which version of VAC are you using? The current version is 4.13, and several
earlier versions had minor port clock issues when stopping and starting sync on
mode changes, etc. Also, some audio drivers don't react well to using the
client software's port clock so you might want to experiment
Which reminds me that a a database reset might be in order...

Yes, one would indeed hope, but when wishes like this go answered, one would
have to actually start making adjustments. I know that there are certain
transceiver / microphone / shack combinations that are great right out of the

addressing audio concerns on my 5K. You don't specify exactly what was bad

and poor tonal balance.
Echos have a simple cause, once you

Flex stated that they are not going to make new VU5K assemblies past a final

have the assurance that you are asking for.

What do I base this opinion on? Look at 6000 series pamphlet, and Google the
