Since my last CW QSO was approx 30 years ago, I decided it was time to dust off the key try to get some proficiency built up. I am not clear on how to connect a straight key or external keyer via a COM port. Maybe it is just my fuzzy brain, but the manual does not seem to be real clear

Ken, Thanks for the suggestions. I found that my external keyer (MFJ-401D) is not compatible with the COM port, either. So I connected my paddles straight key direct to the COM port. I had been using the key jack on the back of the SDR-1000, and that would still be my preference. The CW
