Let me add my two centsthe 3000 is superb. I have no experience with the
K3 and only limited time logged with a KX3. The K3 is more expensive than the
3000 and its pan adaptor is available as an option as is its tuner. Transmit
audio is about the same on both rigs. Receivers essentially
I put in an order for the KX3 after selling the Flex 1500, so we will see.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies.
I have a 3K now, which I like very much, but the K3 is my dream rig and I am on
the fence. I'll try one out first. I do not know code (yet), so that is not an
issue for me.
The grass looks greener on the other side maybe, hi hi.
I kind of wish Rob would have tested the F5K, K3 and Orion down to lets say 100
hz on the narrow dynamic range. The radios have the capability to perform
there, and it gets inside the roofing filter which is really a crutch that
was developed by Ten Tec to win the numbers game. In the Orion-2

Of course we need numbers but I think you know where I'm going here.
Have fun!

I said building the test jig might be problematic.
This criticism doesn't change the fact that just because you measure
something it does not make what your measuring is worthwhile. Your comment
about RX performance not changing much is precisely the point. We keep
measuring and

Indeed.. but probably doable in some form, and worth pursing, in some form.

Hi Edwin,
Does anyone know if the SDR1000 will be listed on this chart?
I doubt it.
The results would depend to a large extent on the quality of the sound
card used.

And don't forget that once the new archictecture hits the
street the 96dB close spaced IMD DR will apply to all N
RXes (multi watch) across the sample bandpass of each HW RX,
not just two RXes in total.
Considering that the 5K doesn't have any narrow roofing

Rob,
was there any particular reason the K3 wasn't tested using the available
8-pole 250 Hz roofing filter? I'd be curious to know how much if any
this would add to the narrow spaced dynamic performance of the K3
(tested with the 5-pole 200 hz).

I have both radios now and used them in the just ended DX contest. I did
lots of a/b comparisons.
Let me tell you (from my perspective) nothing beats the audio and visual
input to the brain. With the 5000 narrowed down to 100Hz or less, it was
unbeatable.
