Hi, W8 will not solve the issue, it seems to clearly be the driver. FWIW the new RFspace SDR-IP radio uses Ethernet and due to the way the firmware is designed there are no problems. I don't see what the chipset is in my ASUSROCK X58 system, I'll have to do some Googling. Simon Brown, HB9DRV

OK, so maybe I don't listen, or I was sleep deprived. I was given several recommendations, but none of the cards was avail for purchase (no longer manuf). I ordered and received a Dynex firewire card, but the thing arrived in the mail and it said it works with XP. Did not even mention Vista!

Mark, get the model nr of a card, go to the mfr's web site and see if a download is available to update it to Win7. Cards packaged/printed months ago are still usable with updated drivers, but it may not say so on the package. I have a photo scanner I bought before vista, but I can get Win7

Erik, As a potential Flex 5000 owner and current W7 64-bit user I must ask - have you checked that it's the FireWire driver that's causing the BSOD? Were I to buy a Flex 5000 then I would want to write my own code to drive it, getting BSODs while developing code is not what I would want. Simon

BTW, for people looking for a firewire board, I can heartily recommend the Syba SD-LUC-4F PCI card. Only time will tell if it has the high defect rate that I am experiencing with the Startech board I have used for the past 9 months, but its very good. Zero impact on the DPC for systems I have used
