There is way too much attention paid to S meters. I'm glad that ours is
accurate (or, more properly, can be made so), but unless you're trying
to do a serious scientific experiment in propagation, which requires
calibrated S meters _on both ends_ just for starters, it doesn't mean
Da!

Perfect. Any 500 Hz wide filter in any mode (with the exception of SPEC
mode) should come close to this result.

I don't think what is measured with the S meter in the
SDR-1000 is the same as what is measured in most
radios. The S meter in the SDR actually reads an
absolute signal strength in dBm calibrated to what
ever signal source you use for calibration. The scale
is accurate and within 0.1 dB accuracy

You can tell JAPAN has got our number !!!
I just did a quick check here. I switched my Yaesu FT-847 in line & connected
it to my Elecraft XG-2. Its S-Meter is dead on S9 on 14.0598, just like the
SDR-1000.

reads around -130 to -135dBm, your XG-1 is probably just fine.

Edwin,
This thread has been on the reflector before. The SDR-1000 is reading
the actual signal coming from the antenna. Once calibrated it is VERY
accurate.
I have an XG-1 and it aligns nicely with my 756 Pro II.

Hi, Edwin.
I also use Elecraft XG-1 and wholly satisfied S-meter in PowerSDR.
These vastly best and truthful than japanese S-meters.
Emulation bad S-meters IC, FT, TS - this self-deception and step to back.

After a couple of hours of putting together the Elecraft XG-1 kit I
finally calibrated my S meter setting the level to -73dBm and was
surprised to see that the readings were so much lower than that of my
Yaesu FT-847 that it seemed something was wrong. I checked the archives
here and it appears t
