I do something similar to this for one of my clients. I have a couple of
scripts so that they can quickly swap the images in their document:
We noticed this years ago, and our solution was to include two images in
the file, one for online viewing, and one for print.
We included a jpg (I think) for online FM viewing, and a PDF for print and
PDF production.
When the image embedded in the resulting pdf is zoomed, the resolution is

My memory is not as good as it was when I was in my 70s, but this sounds like a
problem I had once upon a time. As I remember, the cause was that some Adobe
programmer had his copy of FM set to low-resolution because, while he was
programming, there was no need for full-resolution images. But

What is the source of your PDF (i.e. What program is being used to generate the
PDF)? It maybe be that your settings there are determining the preview quality

I think this is attributed to low rez for viewing, but I don't remember what
changes to make to show a normal resolution image.
