Jeff, I think we did uncheck
Nope, that's the correct order - you should have an intact copy of Acrobat Pro

I'd be inclined to print to PDF as this exposes the PDF creation settings -
maybe you've got something turned on/not turned on that's impacting the
playback of your video. I don't have any videos in my FM content, so I can't
really help you on that point. Have you had a look in the Acrobat
I converted from FM7 to FM12, which is a huge leap; however, there is an
excellent course on Lynda.com. The course is on FM10 (Essential Training)
that covers the new user interface, as well as most of the things that you
would need to know. As I understand, there aren't a lot of differences

Hey Jeff,
Are there also FM12
The standalone instance of FM has been known to not be very observant of the
existence of the full Acrobat Pro version already installed - so if you don't
turn that part off, the installer clobbers your full version with the
headless one.
Regarding round-tripping review PDFs - make sure that
Only if you had the full version of Acrobat Pro and then installed the headless
version overtop of it. In that situation, you would have to uninstall Acrobat
reinstall the full Pro version to restore your functionality. I don't know if
this situation applies to you or not.

More to the point, once you have installed the headless PDF distiller that
comes with FrameMaker, trying to uninstall it is likely to clobber any
installation of Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Pro because the uninstall script
would be unaware of the existence of those tools and the fact that they
Thanks, Fred.
We are going to test this on another computer. Load Acrobat Pro Extended
(we're at ver. 9), then custom load FM12, making sure that the distiller
is not loaded. We'll see if that solves the problem.

The installations screens do not make it obvious and many overlook the
option. A while back, Arnis Gubins posted screenshots on where to look:

only options they saw were FM12 and

First, I'm not sure what you mean by using a virtual machine.
I don't know how to best explain it, but a virtual machine is basically
a software program, like Virtual PC, that runs on your computer. It
creates an, artificial computer in memory, where you install the
operating system of
I have inserted several short video clips into a small manual created with
FrameMaker 12 (all clips are mp4 format). Book file is saved as a PDF.
When I open the PDF in Acrobat 9 or Adobe Reader 11 and click on the icon
for any of the videos, I see only a black box. When I open the same PDF in
Are all of these versions of Adobe Reader on the same computer? If so,
Adobe recommends against that, as they tend to stomp all over each
other, breaking things. The same thing can happen if you have Reader
installed on the same computer as Acrobat. If you have Acrobat, you
should not install

I'm sure this is true, Mike, but it's ultra-dumb: many folks *need* Acrobat Pro
as well as Reader and FrameMaker. Are
